Hockey Players were seen at PCA stadium Mohali, cheering for Kings XI Punjab against Banglore here on Friday. Some wondered if hockey players had interest in cricket, but it was revealed later that they had not come to the match for entertainment purpose but for monetary purpose.

“We have been trying all means to promote hockey, but all in vain. Recently we organized an event similar to IPL (World Series Hockey), but nobody came to watch it. More frustrating was that nobody can name eight teams playing in the WSH but they remember even state level junior cricket players playing in IPL. But we have to meet our ends so we have come here to earn some money”, Said abc player (like most of us, our reporter didn’t have much knowledge of the game. So he forgot the player’s name and couldn’t find on google also. Inconvenience is regretted).

Hockey players were recognized by the cameraman when Punjab team player hit a rare six. Cheerleaders were expected to dance, but some men came on the stage instead and started performing bhangra. Audience didn’t notice them as they were busy seeing Preity Zinta. And those few, who saw them, could not recognize that they were hockey players of national team as nobody has ever seen them on TV or in reality. But cameraman somehow could manage to identify them, not because he is hockey lover. It was due to the fact that he is the same cameraman who had covered whole World Series Hockey championship.

“Kings XI Punjab team is not playing well. As usual they find themselves at the bottom of table. So sponsors can’t afford costly cheerleaders. Those who come to the ground to see the match are happy seeing Preity. So to fill the gap of cheerleaders, they have hired us. They have promised to give each player a hefty amount of Rs 5000 per match. As per hockey standards that’s a big deal”, Said pqr player.

“Who says hockey is in bad shape. See I have got this life time opportunity because of hockey. After IPL, I will get Rs 80000 (5000 per match for 16 matches. Kings XI Punjab are not going to reach semi’s or we could earn more), Said excited xyz player (sorry he also told us his name, but again we forgot).

On being asked about his plans with this money he said, “I had taken personal loan to buy a bicycle. First of all I will repay that. Then I will buy TV also. My family couldn’t watch me playing hockey. Atleast they should watch me in cheerleader role. Rest of the money I will keep as fixed deposit in bank. That will be used when my son gets young. Half of it will be used to teach him hockey. And the remaining half to teach him dance so that he can be a successful cheerleader like me, in case the state of hockey is same as it is today”
